Vice President Guy Scott has disclosed that government was engaging provincial administrations and other stakeholders in all the ten provinces of Zambia to address the increasing road carnages experienced in the country.
Dr. Scott disclosed in parliament today that Zambia was experiencing a high number of deaths recorded from accidents while those in the Scandinavian countries recorded fewer accidents over a period of one year.

Early this month, the Vice President called for increased checkpoints along the Great North road to reduce road traffic accidents.

Responding to Lupososhi Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament (MP) Bwalya Chungu who wanted to find out what government was doing to address the increasing number of road carnages along the famous Great North road, the Dr. Scott reiterated government’s commitment to addressing the matter.

This was during the 30 minute Vice President’s question time.

He observed that some drivers were allegedly not resting hence causing accidents.

He said there was urgent need to find a lasting solution to save lives and property adding that road accidents were exerting huge costs on government.

Dr. Scott, who is also PF Lusaka Central Member of Parliament, challenged authorities at provincial administrations to find ways of avoiding accidents in order to save people from dying unnecessarily.
