-Mbala district commissioner Best Kabulembe has appealed to stakeholders in the area to give financial support to women.

The Mbala DC says this would be the best way to honor the women to successfully commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day which falls on March 8.

Mr. Kabulembe said women needed to be supported because of their contribution to the attainment of the district’s political, social- economic development and looking after the welfare of families.

The district commissioner was speaking during the international women’s day fundraising dinner dance held at Grasshopper Inn conference hall over the weekend.

He said apart from raising funds for the actual commemoration, the proceeds would be spent on activities to support the aged, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the district.

Speaking earlier, women representative, Isabel Kabulembe said women were integral partners in development that needed to be supported if the district and the country as a whole was to move forward.

Mrs.  Kabulembe, who is also education standards officer at the DEBS office and wife of the district commissioner, observed that there would be no meaningful development if men worked in isolation without the involvement of women.

She urged all men to give support to the activities lined up for IWD celebrations in the district.

The International Women’s Day will be commemorated under theme, “Inspiring change and celebrating God’s favour of 50 years of women’s excellence and achievements.”
