Media reports of dead Chadiza Secondary school pupil saddens management

Chadiza, 21 February 2014, ZANIS…..Management at Chadiza Boarding Secondary School says it is saddened by media reports over the untimely death of a pupil two weeks ago.

School Head Teacher Rose Miyombo says the way the issue was reported in the media was not good as it had some aspects of degrading her management of the school.

Mrs. Miyombo said the media reported that the girl who died was part of the pupils who were playing football when in the actual fact she was not.

The school manager explained that the deceased girl was actually an outsider who was crossing from one side of the playing field to the other before she met her fate.

ZANIS reports that the school mnanager said this in a briefing at her office, today.

She said she was even angered more when she heard that the playing field was demarcated into two because nothing like that had happened.

Mrs. Miyombo went on to complain that even the issues of management not reporting matters concerning some happenings at the school were not correct because she has been communicating with Mr. Wiseman Phiri who happens to be the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS).

She said quite alright some matters like the theft of Thirteen Thousand Two Hundred and Forty Eight Kwacha (K13, 248) School money was not reported immediately because of some procedures that were involved but that all matters were reported to the DEBS.

Mrs. Miyombo said that the school management was not working in isolation as the picture has been portrayed but that the school authority was collaborating well with the DEBS office and other line ministries.

Two weeks ago the local media reported that a pupil at Chadiza Boarding Secondary School had died after she was hit by a javelin during sports training at the learning institution.

The Story attributed Chadiza District Commissioner Paul Phiri who complained that he had not received any report from the DEBS office or from the school by the time the matter was being published.

Mr. Mangombe Tembo who was acting as DEBS when the incident occurred also told Chadiza District Commissioner Paul Phiri that he had not received any report from the school at that time.

He said looking at how serious the matter was, he was forced together with the District Commissioner to go to the school where they met a Mr. Mwansa who was acting as Head Teacher and when they asked about the matter Mr. Mwansa said he was not in a position to give any report to the acting DEBS and District Commissioner.
