ZNBC radio, TV signal re-stalled in Luwingu

–The community in Luwingu district of Northern province have expressed happiness with the improvement of Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) radio reception following the installation of modern Frequency Modulation (FM) transmitters.

 

The transmitters, which have been installed at Zambia telecommunications company Limited, have tremendously improved ZNBC reception in the district.

 

The people, who include teachers, nurses, villagers and the district administration who stormed Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in the district thanked President Michael Sata’s government for making it possible for the community in the area to listen to the national broadcaster.

 

“This is the development that we have been crying for many years. We are now able to listen to news and other interesting programmes at click of a button,” they added.

 

They said accessing ZNBC reception had been a hassle in recent years as both television and radio receptions had been extremely poor and sometimes without signals as it is in the case of TV which stopped functioning following the transmitter having been blown off eight months ago.

 

A survey carried out by ZANIS in the area revealed that people were listening to ZNBC using their small devices such as phones, small radios which look like cameras, while others were rushing to buying dry cells to try their radios.

 

By 13:00hrs a shop at Burma Market in Lupili Township which was selling batteries had run out of the commodity forcing the residents to descend to location markets while they were calling their colleagues in Kasama to buy them batteries in order to come and listen to ZNBC radio 2 on FM.

 

Some patrons with vehicles were also busy fidgeting with their radios in order to listen to ZNBC radio programmes in their vehicles.

 

There was jubilation among the residents all over the township as most of them were happy with the development.

 

The notables included the District Administrative Officer, Deodatus Munsungwe, the district commissioner, Mambwe Katontoka and several senior government officials who were overheard talking to each other in Bemba saying “awe icicena cawama” this is good.

 

At the District Commissioner’s Office, District Education Board Secretary and the District Council offices there was excitement as public service workers were seen trying their cell phones to prove that FM stereo was installed.
