79 pupils injured in a traffic accident in Manyinga District

  Seventy-nine pupils from Loloma High School have been injured in a road accident after they fell off a moving truck.

 

The 79 pupils were on their way to Kabompo cemetery for the burial of a fellow pupil when the accident happened.

 

ZANIS reports that Manyinga District Commissioner  Queen Manela and Police Officer-in-Charge Robertson Lumayi confirmed the accident that happened along Manyinga-Kabompo road at 10.30 hours today.

 

MR Lumayi said a Hino Truck registration number ACT 7183, driven by Green Sakuwaha, ferrying pupils going for burial lost control and caused 79 pupils on board to fall off the trailer.

 

And resident Doctor Dr Joel Nkonde said that Manyinga district hospital received 79 injured Pupils at 11.00 hours today, with seven of them critically injured.

 

Dr Nkonde said most of the pupils had fractures and several body injuries, but were all out of danger and receiving treatment.

 

Meawhile the DC who is shocked over the accident told ZANIS that it is a sad development that the truck was being driven by unlicensed driver who should be punished.

 

Ms Manela also called upon Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) and Traffic Police to intensify their operations in the district to bring order on the roads in the area.

                                                  

Recently a 27-year-old grade 11 pupil died on the spot after being hit by Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to St kalemba Mission of the Catholic Church.
