Government has raised K650, 000 from the sale of holograms since the introduction of the security stickers in September last year.

This translates into K65, 000 in mechanical rights payable to various artists for their various works.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Mwansa Kapeya disclosed this today when he witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understand (MoU) between the Zambia Music Copyright and Protection Society (ZAMCOPS) and the National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) at government complex in Lusaka today.

The MoU signed today will allow ZAMCOPS to collect mechanical rights or loyalties for the sale of holograms on behalf of NAMA, an association which looks at the welfare of artists and musicians.

Mr. Kapeya commended and congratulated ZAMCOPS and NAMA for cooperating to ensure that artists and producers in the film industry are appropriately rewarded for their intellectual property through effective administration and enforcement of the hologram.

The minister further commended NAMA for engaging the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) on the introduction of a film school in Zambia which he said will see a lot of creative minds graduate with diploma and degree certificates in film making.

He noted that the film school will go a long way in developing Zambia’s film industry through skills training in script writing, producing, directing television production, production design, sound design, editing, visual effects, cinematography, music for media production and screen acting.

And both the ZAMCOPS General Manager Mutale Kaemba and NAMA Chairman Patrick Mwamba commended government for recognizing the music and arts industry’s contribution to the economic growth of the nation.

The two leaders, who signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations, noted that the introduction of the hologram by government was a step in the right direction and should be commended by all Zambians.
