United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has charged that President Michael Sata’s clueless policy of ignoring citizens on the constitution is creating unnecessary tension and acrimony in the country.

In an open letter to President Sata dated 16th February, made available to QFM News, Mr Hichilema states that in a functioning democracy, Presidents do not give citizens the “silent treatment” but engage them.

Mr Hichilema has demand that President Sata comes out of what he has described as his new hideout facebook and address the nation directly on the constitution.

He reminds President Sata his battle cry for the September 2011 election that lifted the hopes and aspiration of Zambians was the promise to deliver a people driven constitution within the first ninety (90) days of the Patriotic Front’s administration.

He says reneging on this pledge after getting the vote is tantamount to obtaining electoral victory by false pretences.

Mr Hichilema questions whether President Sata did not know that Zambia already had a constitution when he was campaigning in 2011 and promising voters a new constitution.

He further questions whether Mr Sata did not know that Zambia already had a constitution when he set up a technical committee to spearhead the drafting of a new constitution.

He states that President Sata’s recent utterances on the constitution are confirmation of his hypocrisy.

Mr Hichilema adds that President Sata’s current position on the constitution if taken seriously implies that he orchestrated plunder of national resources to the tune of K154 million.

He further adds that the PF administration’s u-turn on the delivery of a people driven constitution is a direct assault on the people’s jubilee dream.
