Freddie Mwila tips Zambian teams
Lusaka, February 15, 2014, ZANIS…Former National Team Coach Freddie Mwila says Zambian teams need to do a lot of ground work if they were to favourably compete in continental competitions.

Mwila who as coach led Power Dynamos to Continental glory after beating BBC Lions of Nigeria 5-4 on aggregate to scoop the Africa cup Winners cup in 1991 also said Zambian football players must learn to play as a united team.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview Mwila also attributed the poor performance of Zambian teams in continental competitions to lack of knowledge about their opponents.

He said when Power Dynamos made history by becoming the only Zambian team to win a continental trophy in 1991, the club did a lot of research on their opponents which included sending spies to Burkina Faso and Nigeria to check on the style of play for their opponents.

Mwila said he is open to offer advice to the current crop of coaches if approached.

Zambia is this year being represented in the CAF Champions League by Nkana Footbal Club, while Zesco United is representing the country in the CAF Confederations Cup.
