–Teachers in Chilubi district of Northern Province are appealing to government to start paying them their housing allowances.

Chilubi district Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZANUT) chairperson, Charles Sichilima, made the appeal in a walk in interview with ZANIS in Chilubi district.

Mr Shichilima complained that since November last year teachers in the district have not been getting their housing allowances.

He added his union and teachers fail to understand why government has stopped paying them such allowances as most of teachers in the district are still in rented houses.

The union leader further said the situation has made life difficult as it has compromised the living standards of teachers in the area.

Mr Sichilma has since challenged government to urgently address the housing challenges faced by workers in the Ministry of Education if it was to make them feel motivated with work.
