Police have recorded a warn and caution statement from former Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba on eight counts involving offences allegedly committed between 1st April and 30th November 2012.

Police Spokesperson, Charity Munganga Chanda has told Journalists at Woodland Police station were Mr Mwamba appeared for questioning that facts of the offences are that whilst acting as republican president as per government gazette notice No. 238 of 2012 of 25th April 2012, Mr. Mwamba allegedly committed the offence of disobedience of Statutory Duty contrary to section 126 Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Ms. Chanda says Mr. Mwamba is also alleged to have Abused his Authority of office contrary to section 21 (1) (a) and (b) of the Anti-Corruption ACT No. 3 of 2012 by directing and influencing the award of a contract for supply and delivery of 9, 10 and 12 meter wooden poles to Zesco Limited on a one year running contract to Arizona Marketing and Distributors in which Company he was a Director and Partner.

Ms. Chanda adds that as Director and Partner of Arizona Marketing and Distributors, Mr. Mwamba is further alleged to committed three counts of uttering a false document contrary to section 352 Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia involving Manufacturers Authorization, Company profile and Pole specifications to Zambia Public Procurement Authority and Zesco purporting they were issued by Board Timbers Limited of Zimbabwe when in fact not.

And MS. Chanda further adds that in his capacity as the then Director and partner of Arizona Marketing and Distributors, Mr. Mwamba has been warned and caution for two counts of making a false document contrary to section 344 of Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia namely a company profile for Border Timbers and Poles specifications purporting that they were issued from Border Timbers Limited when in fact not.

The police spokesperson has further told journalists that in the last count Mr.Mwamba is alleged to have forged tow manufacturers authorization documents contrary to section 342 of Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia purporting that they were issued by Border Timbers Limited when in fact not.

She also notes that investigations into the matter have continued but that Mr. Mwamba through his lawyer Makebi Zulu asked for more time to study the charges against him.

Speaking shortly after being warned and cautioned, Mr. Mwamba who is also Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama central Member of Parliament told journalists that he is not shaken by the warn and caution statement.

Asked whether he finds the offences politically motivated especially that they have come after he resigned from government, Mr. declined to comment.

He has however maintained that he still remains a member and strong believer of the ruling PF and that he will not resign because he helped the PF get into government.
