Parliament resumes sitting tomorrow

-The Third Session of the 11th National Assembly which adjourned sine die in December last year resumes sitting tomorrow  February 11, 2014,  for commencement of the second meeting of the 3rd Session.

 

The House however, lost Dr Patrick Chikusu, who was MMD Katuba Member of Parliament (MP) and Health Deputy Minister who died in December last year but expects to have him replaced on February 25 after the poll.

 

National Assembly Media Liaison Officer, Matthew Mukelabai, confirmed in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

 

Mr Mukelabai said the House is expected to consider three bills among them Legal Practitioners amendment, the Service Commission amendment and the Business Regulatory Bill.

 

Defense minister Geoffrey Mwamba, Ronald Chitotela and Rodgers Mwewa who are PF MPs will assume the role of back benchers following the resignation of Mr Mwamba and the sacking of Mr Chitotela and Mwewa as Deputy Ministers by President Michael Sata.

 

Home Affairs Minister, Ngosa Simbyakula will take the front seat in the House following his elevatio as cabinet minister.

 

Two MPs namely PF Mufumbwe Steven Masuumba and his MMD Chisamba counterpart, Moses Muteteka will not enter the House because of their convictions by courts of law.  

 

The House is also expected to ratify the appointment of Acting Supreme Court Judge, Evans Hamaundu, High Court Judges Getrude Chawatama and Justine Chashi following the trio’s appointment to sit on the Wynter Kabimba tribunal.

 

The House considered and passed a total of 11 Bills, 235 questions for oral and written answers, one private members’ motion, three motions to adopt parliamentary select committee reports, 21 ministerial statements and nine annual reports from government and quasi-government institutions that were tabled in the House.
