FORMER Zambia national team striker Dennis Lota will be buried in Johannesburg.
Family spokesperson John Mphasoe said from Johannesburg yesterday that Lota’s burial has been set for next week.
“We have agreed that he will be buried next week in Johannesburg probably on Wednesday.  He is not going to be buried in Zambia. His family is here but a detailed burial progamme will be released later,” Mphasoe said.
Lota, 40, an assistant coach at South African Premier Soccer League outfit Moroka Swallows died on Tuesday night in Johannesburg after a short illness.
Mphasoe said the memorial service will be held on Monday at Harvest Time Dome Church in Clairmont, Johannesburg.
“The memorial service will be from 19:00 hours to 21:00 hours at Harvest Time Dome in Clairmont,” he said.
Zimbabwean legend Innocent Chikoya, who played alongside Lota at Swallows, is among prominent personalities, who are expected to pay tribute to the former Zambia striker.
Others are Swallows owner Leon Prins, coach Zeca Marques, Orlando Pirates boss Irvin Khoza, Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Brand de Villiers and Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya.
Lota played alongside Kalusha at the 1996, 1998, 2000 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Lota was influential in helping Zambia finish third at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Lota was popularly known as ‘Chesa Mpama’ due to his goal scoring exploits at Orlando Pirates.
He also had stints at South African sides AmaZulu, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Witbank Aces.
Lota also featured for Tunisian side Esperance and FC Sion of Switzerland.
In Zambia, Lota campaigned for Nkana, Konkola Blades, Nchanga Rangers, Kabwe Warriors and Zanaco.
