–Vubwi District Commissioner, Elenes Banda, says the district is likely to record a bumper harvest because of the timely distribution of fertilizer under the Farmer Input Support Programme, (FISP).

Ms Banda said the district was allocated 12 700 X 50 kg bags of basal dressing and 12 700 X 50 kg bags of top dressing fertiliser which has already been distributed to farmers in the district.

She said the Ministry of Agriculture has also distributed a total of 6350 bags of maize seed.

Ms Banda dispelled fears that the late distribution of farming inputs will result in poor harvest of maize, saying the crop is doing well in the district.

She said a further 2869 packs and seed and fertiliser under the Ministry of Community Development has been given to 2869 farmers practicing conservation farming.

Ms Banda was speaking when Information and Broadcasting Deputy Minister, Poniso Njeulu paid a courtesy call on her.

And Mr Njeulu said he was impressed with the prospect of a bumper harvest in the district.
