PROMINENT Lusaka business executive, Noel Nkoma has been appointed chairperson of organising committee for the 2014 All Africa Junior Golf Challenge set for Chainama Hills Golf Club in Lusaka in April.

Nkoma, who has served on several steering committees for the Zambia Open Championship including the 2014 edition, will bedeputised by Chainama president, Welani Chilengwe and Gianni Guiseppen.

Chilengwe will be in charge of operations while Guiseppen will take care of fundraising and advertisements with help from Chongo Kasongole and Elijah Chisanga.

Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) vice-president south, Innocent Chalabesa will represent the union’s interests on the team just like Zambia Junior Golf Association (ZJGA) assistant director, Christopher Mulenga is an envoy for the junior golf body.

Chainama captain, Killian Mwela is the club’s representative in the committee while Colonel Maison Maanga will be in charge of the secretariat with the treasurer being Alick Mutambo.

Tazara Deputy Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka will take charge of the security and safety during the tournament and will be assisted by Derrick Mboyonga.

MultiChoice Zambia public relations manager, Marlon Kananda will head the communications and public relations wing with Rudolf Mugabe being in charge of the tournament while the golf course preparations will be supervised by Christopher Zulu.

Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) president, Moono Mwila will take care of logistics, accommodation and transport with the tournament office administrator being Matildah Achiume while the rules officials are Alick Chinungi and Steve Nawa.

When unveiling the organising committee in Lusaka yesterday, Chilengwe said Chainama was optimistic the team, blended of business executives and seasoned golf administrators drawn from different clubs, would do a good job in putting up a successful tournament.

Chilengwe, a former ZGU vice-president south, said the committee had been tasked with the responsibility of raising the budgeted K350, 000 needed to stage Africa’s prestigious junior golf tournament.

South Africa are the defending champions while Zimbabwe finished second at last year’s event held in Mauritius.

Zambia, who struck a historic bronze in Mauritius, last year, will hope to better that performance in April at Chainama.
