Opposition Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) president Frederick Mutesa has maintained that he is ready to relinquish his presidency if ever the opposition alliance culminates into one political party.

Dr. Mutesa says this is because when his party decided to be part of the alliance of opposition political parties, it was ready lay aside its personal aspirations and interests.

Dr. Mutesa notes that his party also entered into the alliance in good faith and that it believes that the other the opposition political parties in the alliance are also participating in good faith.

He adds that the ZED is further optimistic that the alliance will accomplish more than what a single political party can achieve because it believes that there is strength in unity the more reason his party entered into the alliance.

And the ZED leader has observed that if the opposition alliance is of no consequence on the country’s political landscape as the detractors are trying to make it look, there is no reason of talking about it.

The opposition leader has also maintained that the door is still for more serious political parties to join the alliance as members of the alliance want it to a formidable opposition that is capable of offering effective checks and balances to the Patriotic Front (PF) government.
