VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has challenged former Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba to resign from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Dr Scott said during a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Mwamba should not ride on the back of the PF to prove his political muscle to the nation.

He said Mr Mwamba should be honest about his political potential by not overrating himself when there was a record to show that he would not have won an election had he not stood on the PF ticket in 2011.

Dr Scott said if Mr Mwamba did not resign from the ruling party, other available avenues would be used to oust him from the PF.

He said the party was ready to defend and reclaim the Kasama Central seat.

“We want to go to Kasama and sort out who are the leaders between us and others. Let him be honest and straight-forward, resign, we want to challenge him in the governance of the country,” Dr Scott said.

He dared Mr Mwamba, popularly known as GBM, to use his ‘friend’, former Information and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Emmanuel Mwamba as his election agent.

He said Mr Mwamba would not scoop the seat if he stood against the ruling party.

Dr Scott said Mr Mwamba would be shown through a by-election that it was because of the PF that he won the Kasama Central seat.

He said the PF could not afford any more confusion because of Mr Mwamba’s hidden agenda as demonstrated by his postings in the social media.

Dr Scott said Mr Mwamba was not remorseful and was exhibiting traits of disloyalty to the ruling party.

Efforts to get Mr Mwamba proved futile by Press time as his mobile phone was switched off.

The former permanent secretary, Mr Mwamba’s phone went unanswered, but he told Radio Phoenix lunch hour news yesterday that he would issue a comprehensive statement on the matter.

The PF in Northern Province recently suspended Mr Mwamba for allegedly bringing the name of the party into ridicule.

The decision to suspend Mr Mwamba was arrived at during a PF Northern Province committee meeting on January 14, this year.

During his suspension, Mr Mwamba would not be allowed to perform party activities or interact with party members and officials until his petition is determined by the national disciplinary committee and the central committee.
