Good Morning Dear Friends,

Today, I wish to share with you our Government’s progress on the construction of selected road works within and around Western Province. As of December 2013, a total of 1,713 jobs were created in the province during the on-going construction works of 680.80km of roads which is costing a total K1.8 million as follows:

1. Engineering, Design and Construction of the Mongu-Kalabo Road: works-on-going at 48% progress;

2. Upgrading and Re-alignment of Road M10 from Senanga to Sesheke (70km): works completed at 100% progress;
3. Construction of the Bridge across the Zambezi river at Sioma/Maziba crossing: the Contractor is mobilizing equipment;
4. Machile Embankment Works: works ongoing;
5. Periodic Maintenance of 87.2km of Kaoma – Mongu M009 from Tateyoyo Gate to Katundu/Lukulu Road: works on-going at 24% progress;
6. Periodic Maintence of 175.8km of Kaoma – Mongu Road M009 from Katundu/Lukulu Road to Mongu: works on-going at 75% progress;
7. Emergency Repairs of Ikwinchi culvert on Limulunga Usha Road: work on-going at 90% progress

The construction of key roads such as the K1.4 billion Mongu-Kalabo road, which has created 1,118 jobs to date will stimulate economic activities in Western province and thus create job opportunities for our people. Once completed the Mongu-Kalabo will be an awesome sight and a testimony of my administration’s determination and resolve to take development to all parts of the country. As I have repeatedly said, Zambia will never be the same again. I urge you all to take time and visit the construction site whenever you are in Western province so that you can have first hand appreciation of what your dedicated Government is doing to improve rural livelihood.
