Hunger has hit some parts of Chief Mubanga’s area in Chinsali district in Muchinga province after army worms destroyed their crops last year.

Confirming the development to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) on Jan 27th, Chilinda ward Councillor Laulent Mpundu said that the situation in his ward is terrible and could result in starvation if aid does not come on time.

Mr Mpundu attributed the crop failure to an invasion by army worms adding not a single crop survived.

He said that he has written to the Department of Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) but there has been no response.

Mr Mpundu noted with sadness and claimed that the area Member of Parliament Christopher Mulenga is not even aware of the suffering of his people as he is alleged to have not visited his constituency in a long time.
The Councillor is calling on government to immediately look into the plight of the villagers before it is too late.
