Kafue District Medical Officer Wyson Munga has disclosed that the prevalence rate for women in the district was higher than tha of men.

And Dr. Munga has said the HIV and AIDS preventive measures have been intensified in order to reduce the prevalence rate in the district.

He said the formation of youth friendly corners have provided a platform for youths to interact on HIV and AIDS related issues at Nangongwe and Estate health centers.

Dr. Munga disclosed this in an interview with ZANIS in Kafue yesterday.

He disclosed that the HIV prevalence rate for the whole district currently stands at 19.3%.

Dr Munga   explained that women had a higher prevalence rate than men which stands at 10.5 percent while that of men was at 8.8 percent.

He attributed the high HIV prevalence rate in the district to the fishing camps and influx of people in transit.

The doctor has however expressed happiness with the ongoing Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) programme as people are able to know their status.

He added that the distribution of condoms and male circumcision has also been intensified in the area
