Kabanshi warns against personalising council vehicles in new districts.

Local Government and Housing Minister Emerine Kabanshi has warned local councils in the newly created districts to desist from personalizing council vehicles.

Ms. Kabanshi said council vehicles should be used for monitoring of services, developmental activities and enhancing evenue collection in the district.

She said her ministry will not hesitate to discipline any officer or civic leader found misusing or abusing council vehicles.

The Minister was speaking in Lusaka today when she officially handed over 14 motor vehicles and office equipment to 14 newly created districts all valued at K3.3 million.

The 14 districts that have received the motor vehicles and equipment are Chisamba, Chitambo, Luano, Ngabwe, Limulunga, Luampa, Mitete, Mwandi, Nalolo, Nkeyema, Sikongo, Sioma,, Shiwa’Ngandu, and Manyinga districts.

Early this week,Ms Kabanshi also handed over modern refuse collection, compactor and disposal trucks valued at K25 million to selected local authorities across the country.

Meanwhile, Ms Kabanshi said her ministry will continue to support the new district councils with structures such as institutional houses, libraries and guest houses among others in order to expand the revenue base.

Ms. Kabanshi reaffirmed government’s commitment to providing adequate infrastructure development and logistical support to new councils to improve service delivery.
