officers and a member of the Community Crime Prevention Unit in Mpika’s Mukungule area have been arrested for allegedly beating a suspect to death .
According to Police in Muchinga province the suspect was beaten to death while in detention.
ZANIS in Chinsali reports that Muchinga deputy Police commissioner Bonny Kapeso confirmed the arrest in an interview today.
Mr Kapeso said the two ZAWA officers and a CCPU member beat up an alleged defiler until he died at a make-shift detention centre in Chief Mukungule area.
Mr. Kapeso said the trio purported that the deceased had committed suicide when in fact not.
He explained that the deceased allegedly defiled a 14 year old girl of the same area.
Mr Kapeso said according to investigations by police officers that visited the scene of the crime it was deduced that the suspect did not commit suicide.
Mr Kapeso said that the trio are currently detained at Mpika police station and will appear in court soon.
