Hundreds of Lusaka residents this morning turned up in their large numbers for the funeral service of Zambia’s High Commissioner to Botswana Robert Mataka’s son Zenene who died on Monday, January 20.
Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda, his Chiefs and Traditional Affairs counterpart Nkandu Luo, former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, NAREP president Elias Chipimo, former Education Minister Dora Siliya and several high profile individuals attended the service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
The church service was followed by a burial at Leopards Memorial Park Cemetery in Lusaka.
Speaking during a homily, Cathedral of the Holy Cross Bishop Charley Thomas described the deceased as a man who had lived his life well by providing quality service to the nation and his family.
Father Thomas said the death of Zenene, who also served as First Secretary for Tourism at the Zambian Mission in South Africa, is a big loss for his family and the nation at large.
He has since urged the family of the deceased to remain strong and trust in God for the strength they need during the trying period.
And brother to the deceased, Brian Mataka, thanked all the mourners that turned up to offer their sympathy to the Mataka family.
