WORLD Professional Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri has thanked her parents and Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions for encouraging her to go back to school.
Catherine said in an interview in Lusaka on Monday that education is power.
Catherine has qualified for grade 10 after scoring 309 points.
She said as a modern boxer, she needs to be educated so that she does not have problems interacting with people during her visits to other countries.
“I am a boxer and I have to learn to communicate with people, my English has to be fluent,” said Catherine, who is also the Africa Boxing Union bantamweight champion.
She is looking forward to reuniting with her friends at Namununga School.
“I will work hard in school because I want to make my parents proud. I will also use my education for exposure towards my boxing career’’ Catherine said.
She will be back in the ring on March 15 when she faces Pia Mazelanik of Germany in the World Boxing Council international bantamweight title fight for Lusaka.
Catherine said she has no problems combining boxing and education.
