Thieves storm Chibombo Primary school

Thieves have broken into the offices at Chibombo Primary School in Chibombo District and have stolen assorted items worth thousands of Kwacha.

And  Chief Liteta of the Lenje speaking people of Chibombo District has condemned the theft incident describing it as retrogressive to the development of the district and his chiefdom.

The offices broken into include  those of the Head, Deputy and Senior teachers, respectively.

Among the items stolen include two HP Desktop computers, two Chess boards, football jerseys, a DVD player, Power extension cable, and a cash book among many other valuables valued at over K10, 000.

The thieves also broke into one of the teacher’s houses in the teachers’ compound and got away with 32 inch plasma Television and K800 cash.

Chibombo Primary School Head teacher Gilbert Pondani has confirmed the development in  an interview and said the theft incident occurred over the weekend.

Mr Pondani said the stolen computers where a donation from ZICTA to the school sometime back and had important information on them.

He said the case has since being reported to the police for investigations.

Meanwhile, Chief Liteta of the Lenje speaking people of Chibombo District has condemned the theft incident describing it as retrogressive to the development of the district and his chiefdom.

Chief Liteta has since appealed to the government to consider deploying more police officers in the area as a way of enhancing security.

He  said  that security in his chiefdom has continued to be porous because there is little police presence in the area.

The Traditional said population in his chiefdom has kept on rising making it difficult for the few police officers in the area to maintain law and order.

Chief Liteta said the spate of theft and other crimes that the area is now experiencing is expected to rise especially when farmers start harvesting their crops.

The traditional leader said other crimes are also expected to escalate as the district continues to develop.

He therefore called for more police presence in the area for enhanced security.
