MMD president Nevers Mumba says opposition party presidents who do not want to relinquish their positions to collectively challenge the Patriotic Front (PF), should not waste time for the proposed opposition alliance.
He has reiterated his readiness to step down as MMD president to pave way for a preferred candidate among the opposition if Zambians decide so.
“All of us presidents in the opposition should be ready to relinquish our positions so that we don’t waste time,” Dr Mumba said.
He said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the call by some political parties that there should be unity of purpose is fully supported by the MMD.
“Indeed, we are of the view that this is not the wish of the opposition political parties, but a wish of the majority Zambians,” he said.
The press briefing was also attended by Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ) president Fr. Frank Bwalya.
Dr Mumba said that any opposition political party without this frame of mind should not waste the alliance’s time.
He said that the MMD urges individual opposition political leaders to refrain from individual ambitions and fixation to become President for the sake of it and ahead of what may be a much nobler cause to fix the ills of this country.
Dr Mumba has also called on President Sata to suspend Minister of Justice Wynter Kabimba during the time that the tribunal is sitting to probe him  for alleged breach of oath of secrecy.
Dr Mumba has also demanded that Government should release the draft constitution to the public by October this year.
He said that if Mr Kabimba does not relinquish his position, the MMD demands President Sata remove him from cabinet.
