Two die in Mazabuka accident

Mazabuka, January 16, 2014, ZANIS– Two people died on the spot last night along the Kafue – Mazabuka when they were hit by an on-coming while they were pushing a faulty Mercedes Benz light truck off Great North Road highway.

 

Southern Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga identified the deceased as Colence Chimwaya aged 37 of Hambele village in Chief Chikanta of Kalomo district  and Boyd Siandwa aged 39 of Siandwa village in Chief Macha’s area in of Choma district.

 

Ms Katanga told ZANIS in Mazabuka this morning that the accident happened last night around 20: 30 hours along the Great North road instantly killing the two pedestrians.

 

Ms. Katanga disclosed that the accident happened near Munali hills and involved a Mercedes Benz light truck registration number AJC 8396 driven by Aubrey Maiya aged 32 and another vehicle a Fuso light truck Registration number AOB 384 driven by David Tambo aged 28.

 

She stated that Tambo a resident of Kalomo district who was heading to Mazabuka from Kafue lost control due to excessive speeding and hit into a Mercedes Benz truck that was being pushed in the same direction.

 

Ms Katanga said the deceased who were pushing the Mercedes Benz truck to go off the road after it developed a mechanical fault were hit from behind and died on the spot.

 

Ms Katanga disclosed that the bodies of the two deceased male persons have since been taken to the Kafue district hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.

 

She said the two vehicles were extensively damaged following the accident adding that police in Mazabuka have since arrested and remanded Tambo in police custody charged for causing death by careless driving and will appear in court soon.
