The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) is saddened by the continued use of Police by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) as a tool of intimidation.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says what was witnessed at Woodlands Police Station where United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema was summoned for questioning is totally unacceptable in a democratic country.

Mr. Mwanza has since appealed to parliamentarians seriously consider making amendments to the Zambia Police Act so as to ensure that no one is seen to be favored by the Police but every citizen is protected.

He says the Zambia Police Act in its current state is still aligned to the one party system of governance.

He adds that the country cannot continue with a system where men and women in uniform are being used by politicians to intimidate political opponents.

Mr. Mwanza has further advised the police to be professional in the way they carry out their duties and ensure that they protect all citizens regardless of political affiliation.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwanza says the FDD supports calls for the resignation of Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba to allow the tribunal constituted to probe him to smoothly investigate him.

He says it is only morally right that Mr. Kabimba steps down.
