IN WHAT seemed like the first knock-out punch since he resigned last month, former Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba yesterday appeared to have suffered a major setback as a political heavyweight when the provincial Patriotic Front (PF) leadership sent him reeling out with an immediate suspension from all party activities until a petition against him has been heard.
In a letter addressed to him and signed by the party’s provincial secretary Everest Chela and provincial chairman Chomba Chipili, Mr Mwamba has been asked to answer charges of desperately trying to destroy the party and in the other case for de-campaigning party councillors.
“Therefore we have had no option but to suspend you from the party and from performing all other party activities unless and until your petition is determined by the national disciplinary committee and eventually the central committee,” reads part of the letter.
The letter, copied to President Sata, the party secretary general, the Kasama Central Constituency and the Kasama district executive committee further states: “While serving your suspension you should not interact with party officials or members of the party.”

Mr Mwamba has been standing on quicksand since his resignation as Minister of Defence last month and his subsequent remarks about and against the PF.
Party members in the constituency and province recently staged a protest march against him, demanding that he be expelled from the PF for bringing the party into ridicule.
