PRESIDENT Sata has appointed former Patriotic Front (PF) Copperbelt youth secretary Chanda Kabwe as Mufulira district commissioner.
Mr Kabwe takes over from Beatrice Mithi, who died on New Year’s Eve.
Mr Kabwe said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that he was appointed district commissioner on January 9.
He said he is greatly honoured by Mr Sata’s decision to give him an opportunity to serve in the civil service and it is a challenge for him to fit into Mrs Mithi’s “shoes.”
“Once again, President Sata has shown his desire to empower youths through my appointment and I am not going to disappoint him,” Mr Kabwe said.
He described Mrs Mithi as a hard working woman who won many accolades.
Mr Kabwe said his first task will be to continue where Mrs Mithi left.
“Fellow young people,  I am humbled by the President’s gesture and may I appeal to you,  especially those in Mufurila that we need to develop this country,” he said.
Mrs Mithi died on New Year’s Eve and President Sata declared a day of national mourning in her honour.
