Police in Chembe District of Luapula Province has arrested and detained a 25 year old Tanzanian man for  alleged rape.

 

ZANIS reports that  Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga confirmed the development in a statement released  in Mansa on Jan 12th. 

 

Mr. Mulenga identified the suspect as Ibrahim Kabungo of Nyumba Yanga area in Lusaka.

 

Mr. Mulenga said Kabungo is alleged to have raped the 19 year old Barbra Kampamba Kabundula of the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) compound, an employee of the Office of the President (OOP) at the Chembe office.

 

He said the incident occurred in the early hours of today around 04: 20 hours.

 

He explained the assailant who was with his fiancé in one of the rooms crawl out of bed at night leaving his unsuspecting partner and tip toed to go where Barbra was sleeping and raped her.

 

Mr. Mulenga further said at the time of occurrence there were three other ladies and one man who were sleeping in the other rooms.

 

The provincial police chief said the humiliated OOP staff later managed to report her ordeal to the police who rushed to the scene and apprehended the Tanzanian law breaker via a phone call.
