Some Lusaka residents have demanded that sexual offenders be handed life sentences as a deterrent measure.

Speaking to QFM-News in random interviews following the observation by High Court Judge Chalwe Muchenga that the 15 years minimum sentence handed to sexual offenders was not helping much in deterring sexual offenders, Chabala Chileshe says it is imperative that government considers revising the penalty for sexual offenses.

Chileshe says it is sad that the 15 years minimum sentence is not deterring people from committing sexual offenses as can be seen from the increase in such cases.

And Mercy Banda says government should consider stiffening punishment for sexual offenders by handing them life imprisonment sentences, noting that they do not only destroy the future of the girl child but also human life.
