A MAN of Lusaka’s Chalala area allegedly killed his two sons and attempted to kill himself yesterday.

Laston Nyirongo, 29, of an unmarked house in Chalala, allegedly poisoned himself and the boys with a chemical known as termidine around 07:00 hours.

This led to the death of his two sons, Levy, 10, and five-year-old Jeff.

Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in an interview last evening that alert neighbours found Nyirongo and the two boys drugged after which they reported the matter to the police.

Mr Hamoonga said when police officers arrived at the house, the boys had already died, while Nyirongo was rushed to Chilenje Clinic.

“The reasons behind the poisoning are not known, but at the time of the incidence the wife was not there because they are currently on separation,” he said.

Nyirongo was treated and then taken to Chilenje Police Station where he was interrogated.

He, however, became violent and investigations could not continue.

Mr Hamoonga said Nyirongo would likely be charged with murder once the interrogations were over.

He remained in custody as police awaited relatives to arrange for the funeral and burial of the boys.

  1. So unwise people also came from the east. On Christmass eve it was a Mr Phiri in Nampundwe setting himself and his children on fire, now a Mr Nyirongo. Beware of fake Easterners!
