Young woman takes her life
Kalabo, January 8, ZANIS ——A 19-year-old woman has committed suicide by hanging herself in unknown circumstances in Kashitu area of Chief Mwenemundu in Kalabo district.
Police in Kalabo confirmed the development to ZANIS and named the deceased as Zuze Chinyama.
The police disclosed that the incident occurred on Monday evening and the cause of the suicide has not yet been established.
It was believed that the deceased hanged herself in a nearby bush where she was allegedly cohabiting with a boyfriend.
But both police and relatives do not suspect any foul play in the death.
In another development, police in Kalabo are holding on to four herds of cattle that are suspected to have been stolen and abandoned at Nyengo market in Sikongo district.
The four herds of cattle were found tied to a tree and nobody came to claim for ownership.
It is suspected that the four herds of cattle were scheduled to be slaughters for sell.
Police have appealed to anybody that is missing cattle to go to Kalabo police station.
Recently Kalabo District Commissioner Irene Mate bemoaned the high levels of cattle thefts in the district.
Mrs Mate said cattle thefts were high and farmers needed to be on the lookout for people involved in unscrupulous activities.
