— Kalomo residents have expressed concern over the slow pace of construction of the district modern hospital with area Member of Parliament also calling on government to review its contractual procedures alleging some contractors were awarded projects without merit.
Southern province Assistant Secretary, Benson Kapumo who visited the site where about 50 workers who have since been laid off without their three months wages with the contractor claiming government has not yet remitted the money to them, threatened that government would not tolerate local contractors who frustrates its efforts to bring development to the masses especially in the health sector.
The new Kalomo district hospital which will be an ultra modern hospital is on phase one construction at a cost of K12 million.
The new hospital when completed will include an administration block and an out-patient department.
The local community have expressed dissatisfaction at the pace of construction works as the local contractor ‘Conquest Limited of Lusaka’ has not reached final touches despite having applied for an extension period which ended last December.
Several stakeholders have expressed concern over the slow pace of construction works of the health facility, adding that Kalomo despite being the first administrative town of the country is still having a first class urban clinic which serves as the district hospital.
