SIX armed bandits with machetes and other dangerous weapons have stolen about K2, 700 at the residence of a Chinese business executive in Choma after tying two security guards with ropes.

The criminals broke into house number 419 in Riverside Township, which belongs to a local business executive Zhu Yiny, who runs some shops within Choma town centre, in the early hours of yesterday.

Southern Province assistant police commissioner Kashif Mphande confirmed the incident which happened around 02:00 hours.

He said no arrests had been made, but investigations had been launched.

Mr Mpande said in an interview yesterday that the criminals forcibly entered the house after breaking the doors and harassed the workers who were found inside.

He said the masked criminals demanded money from the workers after failing to access Mr Zhu’s bedroom which was heavily secured within the main house.

”After breaking the door to the house, they found some workers inside and demanded to be given money because they failed to open the room where Mr Zhu was sleeping.

“Mr Zhu just threw about K2, 750 through a small window to the criminals,” he said.

Mr Mphande said police rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the two security guards who were tied with ropes.

One of Mr Zhu’s workers, Steward Hamujamba said the criminals also stole cell phones, clothes and K700 belonging to the workers.
