THE Zambia Amateur Boxing Federation (ZABF) has appointed former Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) president, Raj Karamchand to chair its financial commission as the organisation strives to build a strong financial base for its programmes.

ZABF president Thomas Chileshe said Karamchand, who is a corporate executive, was vastly experienced in mobilising resources for sports development like he did to help Diggers Rugby Club in Kitwe.

Chileshe said ZABF was hopeful that Karamchand would help the federation raise resources for its various developmental programmes.

He said ZABF would now need to identify more people to work with the former ZRU chief in the financial commission which had been dormant for some time.

The ZABF president said the full members of the commission would be announced before the end of the year.

Chileshe said ZABF would allow the commission to work independently but in liaison with the ZABF treasurer, Joe Siame Jnr

He said his executive had a lot of progressive programmes but such projects suffer due to lack of funds.

Siame said the federation had been limping financially for many years and were now hopeful the financial base would improve.

He said with a vibrant financial commission, ZABF should be able to meet most of its obligations.

And Karamchand said he was humbled by the confidence shown in him by ZABF to chair its financial commission.

”I am humble to be approached by the President of Amateur Boxing Association of Zambia to chair the financial commission of the association,” Karamchand posted on his social network, facebook wall.
