Police in Mansa have arrested a security guard for publication of false news.

Disclosing the development to ZANIS in Mansa, Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, said Lottie Mukandawite, has been arrested for issuing a statement with intent to cause fear and alarm to the public contrary to Section 67 Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Mulenga said the statement made by Mukandawite had the potential of causing a riot if left unchecked.

Mukandawite issued a statement insinuating that Richard Chipulu’s accident at Jimbara Milling, in which he had his left hand cut off, was a ritual act which was meant to kill him and was only lucky to have survived.

Mr Mulenga said although the matter was not reported to the police at first it was in the hands of the police as it was reported later by Callister Kasongo, the Manager at Jimbara Milling Company, that Richard Chipulu, 48, of Chitamba village in chief Kalasa’s area, was trapped in an air seal and lost his left hand.

Mr Mulenga said police acted upon the matter and visited Jimbara Milling Company where they interviewed the director of the company who confirmed the incident.

He said the victim was also visited and narrated that his hand was trapped by an air seal machine as he tried to remove a sack from the same machine thereby cutting his left hand.

The victim’s condition is stable and is nursing his arm at home and the matter of his injury is being handed by the insurance company for compensation in accordance with the industrial act.
