Transparency International Zambia has called on President Michael Sata to consider the immediate suspension of the two deputy ministers, Rodgers Mwewa and Ronald Chitotela, who have been named by the Auditor General over irregularities surrounding the use of constituency development funds to pave way for their investigation.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu has also called upon the Anti Corruption Commission to quickly institute investigations against the two deputy ministers.

Mr. Lungu says the ACC should not take more time to conclude the investigation as it appears the Auditor General’s Office already collected evidence on this serious allegation.

He also cautioned the two deputy Ministers to avoid issuing threats against the Auditor General (AG) over irregularities surrounding the use of public funds.

Mr. Lungu in a statement issued to QFM News says threats by the deputy ministers are very unwarranted and has urged them to appreciate the role of the AGs office.

He says duo should instead start preparing to tell their side of the story on the serious allegations against them.

He notes that the allegations against them are serious and deserve a serious approach.

Mr. Lungu states that TIZ fully supports the stance taken by the Auditor General’s Office and the Public Accounts Committee in ensuring that all those that are cited in any potential irregularities, potential abuse, thefts, corruption and misappropriation of funds are exposed and handed over to law enforcement agencies for possible prosecution.
