UNZA lecturer dies in Addis Ababa

A UNIVERSITY of Zambia lecturer has died in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he was attending a conference for the Organisation of Social Science Research for East and Southern Africa.

Mebbien Chewe Chabatama died at Hayat Hospital on Monday after he complained of vomiting.

Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia Susan Sikaneta said doctors at Hayat Hospital would provide a detailed report on the exact cause of the death of Dr Chabatama.

This is according to a statement released by First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian Mission in Addis Ababa, Dorcas Chileshe.

Dr Chabatama, who arrived in Addis Ababa on Sunday, started vomiting on Monday morning and was taken to the hospital around 18:00 where he was admitted.

“His body is lying in Hayat Hospital mortuary. The Zambian Mission in Addis Ababa is liaising with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the University of Zambia and the family on logistical arrangements and shall announce the date of departure of the body to Zambia in due course,” said Ms Sikaneta.

She expressed sadness at the death of Dr Chabatama.
