DEC nabs Somali national for trafficking in miraa

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a Somali national and two Zambians in Ndola for allegedly trafficking in 143 bundles of miraa.

The commission arrested Fatuma Abiti, 42 of house No.1642, Ndeke township, Helen Mwansa, 32, a businesswoman of Mushili compound and Emmanuel Muke Chileshe 28, a Taxi driver of house No.3022 Masala township.

The trio was arrested and jointly charged for trafficking in psychotropic substance weighing 37.71kg.

DEC Assistant Public Relation Officer Chibu Mwansa Tembo confirmed this to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

And the commission has arrested nine people for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

Among those arrested is a Bus driver of Air Strip area in Nyimba district, Edward Banda 30, who has been jointly charged with Steven Ngoma 19, a bus conductor of the same area in Nyimba and Douglas Phiri 26, a businessman of Chawama compound in Lusaka for trafficking in 16.6kg of cannabis.

Others arrested include Jimmy Lungu of Jack compound in Lusaka for trafficking in 74.5g of loose cannabis and Musisi Sinyangwe 19 of Woodlands area in Lusaka for trafficking in 52.3g of cannabis.

Meanwhile, the DEC in Central Province has arrested Subneti Mulenga 23, of Kapiri Mposhi for trafficking in 10.09 kilograms loose cannabis.

Ms. Tembo said all the suspects would appear in court soon.
