About 200 workers employed by a  Chinese road construction company  China  Jangxi  in Isoka have protested   against non- payment of their  November  wages.

The workers who matched to the office of Isoka  district commissioner yesterday armed with sticks and stones to press for  their money said they deserve their pay.

The workers who spoke  on the condition of   anonymity  told  ZANIS  that  the Chinese official s at China Jangxi  told them that  they do not have  money  to pay them as  the Zambian  Government  has a not paid them for  the second phase of the project.

And Isoka district commissioner Major Joe Siwila has pleaded for calm among the irate workers  saying government was making frantic efforts  to settle the matter.

‘’Your government is a listening one and it would not keep quiet over this matter,’’ said Major Siwila.

Major  Silwila  has since  asked the  workers  to go back to work as their issue was being sorted out.

And when contacted for a comment by ZANIS  in Isoka today , China Jangxi officials referred the workers to Isoka district commissioner Joe Siwila to address the matter .

This is the second road  project that the Chinese road construction company has complained of delays in funding.

Last week the company working on a  90 kilo metre  Isoka –  Muyombe road  told Muchinga provincial Minister  Colonel Gerry  Chanda that the Road Development Agency – RDA  has not  paid them for over six months.

China Jangxi  is working on both the Isoka – Muyombe  road and  21 kilo metres of township  roads in Isoka district.
