Senior Chief Kanong’esha of the Lunda people of Mwinilung’a district has commended government for releasing funds for the upgrading of the 46 km Mwinilung’a Kanong’esha road to gravel standard.

Senior chief Kanong’esha told ZANIS in an interview in Mwinilung’a today that he appreciates government’s commitment and desire of taking development to rural areas through its vigorous road rehabilitation projects.

The senior chief expressed happiness that government has remitted over K 800,000 for the first phase of rehabilitation works, the project which will cost K1.3m to complete.

He appealed to the Rural Roads Unit (RRU) in the province to ensure that money released for the road project is used prudently and for its intended purpose.

Speaking in a separate interview, Bevan Muchima, head teacher at Kampemba Basic School, also expressed gratitude to government for the gesture, describing the move as a positive step towards meaningful development.

Mr Muchima said the rehabilitation of the road will not only ease movement of the people but also open up the area to social and economic development.
