Firing of striking nurses inevitable – Evangelical Fellowship

The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) says the action taken by the government to fire nurses who participated in the strike is inevitable.

EFZ Executive director Pukuta Mwanza has told Qfm in an interview that nurses should understand that they are dealing with lives and a number of lives may have been lost due to their unreasonable strike action.

Rev Mwanza notes that government pleaded with the striking nurses to go back to work but to no avail as they had put their interests first at the expense of the lives of the patients.

He says the strike action by the nurses was unjustifiable as saving lives is much more important than money.

Rev Mwanza adds that a profession like nursing should be a call and those in the profession should be ready to sacrifice even when they are not given enough, with those that cannot do without money leaving the practice.

Rev. Mwanza also states that nurses should also know that they are not saving the government but are saving tax payers whose money they are crying for.
