Government is targeting to spray 15,000 households against malaria in Nakonde district of Muchinga Province.

The programme, which started in October, is being exercised by the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health.

Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health In-door Residual Spraying Manager, Charles Chekwe, pointed out that the program is progressing on well.

Mr Chekwe told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview that Government, through his ministry, wants to ensure that residents in Nakonde district are protected and are free from malaria.

The manager noted that this follows the observation by Government that
most areas in Nakonde experience a high malaria prevalence rate.

Mr Chekwe stated that this prompted the ministry to embark on the in-door malaria spraying program to assist in reducing the high rate of the disease in the district.

He further added that most of the people in the district have come to appreciate the program by Government, adding that the move shows commitment by the state to curb the disease not only in Nakonde but the country as a whole.

Mr Chekwe said this is why his ministry is seriously sensitizing members of the public on the importance for them having their households sprayed against malaria.
