Vice President Guy Scott has confirmed that government has been assured that there will be no job losses at Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) were over 1,500 workers were earmarked for dismissal.

Dr Scott told Parliament this morning during the vice president’s question time that founder and Executive Chairman of Vedanta Resources PLC Anil Agawal who was in the country recently made the assurance to government.

He adds that government has constituted a 12 member high powered committee which is keeping it informed on the issues at KCM.

Meanwhile Dr Scott says KCM Chief Executive officer Kishore Kumar who was declared a prohibited immigrant has appealed against his deportation.

He says Mr Kumar’s appeal against his deportation is being considered by government through the ministry of Home Affairs.
