Chipolopolo team doctor, Joseph Kabungo said he expects Mtonga to fully recover before the 37th edition of the regional CECAFA Challenge starting in Kenya on November 27 and runs through to 12 December 12.

Chipolopolo team doctor, Joseph Kabungo said in an interview yesterday that Mtonga who joined camp with a hip problem was responding well to a laid down programme of recovery.

He said the towering Zesco United midfielder had started training on his own and will next week join the rest of the team in full contact training in readiness for the CECAFA Challenge that Zambia will be hoping to reclaim.

“Kondwani Mtonga is responding well to the recovery programme; we are so satisfied that we have even put him on light training. He has started training on his own and will next week join up with his friends ahead of departure for Kenya. But he will be ready for the CECAFA tournament.

“Apart from Kondwani, all the players are doing well and are in tip top form. There are no worries and we hope there would be no form of knocks in the coming days as we prepare for the CECAFA,” said Kabungo.

Mtonga reported to the national team camping with a hip problem from the just ended MTN-FAZ league season.
Kabungo said his staff was just being precautious about Mtonga’s quick integration into the main team which was why they extended his return to full contact training to next week.

Kabungo said he was trying to protect the player from a recurrence of the problem in the days running up to the CECAFA and wanted him to fully recover so that he applies himself well when the Chipolopolo travel to Kenya to go and defend the title in the competition where Zambia is appearing as a guest side.
