THE Scrabble Association of Zambia (SAZ) is appealing for K20, 000 from well-wishers to help the association send a team of the three players for the 2013 World Championships scheduled for the Czech Republic next month.

SAZ president Sydney Kalema said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the association has so far only managed to raise K4, 000 from the K24, 000 budget for the World Championships billed for the Andel’s Hotel, Prague from December 3 to 8.

Kalema said the association has been holding rating tournaments to come up with names of players as a way of preparing for the World Championships where the winner will get US$25, 000 (about K137, 500).

“We are appealing to the corporate world to come on board and help us raise these funds so that we can send three players for the World Championships next month.

We are already holding rating tournaments to help prepare the players so that we can get the best,” he said.

The World Championships are held after two years. Zambia failed to send a representative to the last tournament held in Warsaw, Poland.
