African Swine Fever (ASF) breaks in Lusaka

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has announced that there has been an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Lusaka Province that can kill 95 percent to 100 percent of affected pigs.

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Department of veterinary services Director, Dr. Joseph Mubanga has Confirmed the development to qfm news that it is for this reason that the department of veterinary services has with immediate effect banned slaughtering of pigs at the abattoirs within Lusaka Province.

Dr. Mubanga says the department has also banned the movement of pigs and pig products into and out of Lusaka Province.

Dr. Mubanga explains that the department of veterinary services has also set up bio-security check points at Kafue Bridge, West Wood Police, Kabangwe Police and Nkalambwe to effectively monitor the movement of pigs in and out of Lusaka Province.

Dr. Mubanga states that it is an offense to move pigs and pig products into and out of Lusaka Province.

He says the general public is hereby requested to be vigilant and report all sick pigs to the nearest veterinary office.
