VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has arrived in Colombo to represent President Michael Sata during this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

He landed at Bandanaraike International Airport at 18:00 hours local time (14:30 Zambian time) with his wife Charlotte and his senior private secretary Robert Kamalata.
The theme for this year’s CHOGM is ‘Inclusive Development—Stronger Together’.
Dr Scott will address a meeting on the investment climate in Zambia tomorrow before flying to Hambantota to participate in the Heads of Government roundtable discussion with business leaders.
The Vice-President would be among the Commonwealth Heads of Government during the official opening at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre tomorrow at 10:15 hours local time. The summit closes this Sunday.
Meanwhile, The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) has expressed disappointment that the Maldives presidential election process has not been concluded after the expiration of President Mohammed Waheed Hassan’s term of office on November 11, 2013.
The Group said in a statement issued yesterday that the breach of the November 11, 2013 constitutional deadline to inaugurate a new president followed repeated delays to the electoral process as a result of annulment by the Supreme Court of the first-round elections held on September 7, 2013.
There was also failure to proceed with three further elections on September 28, 2013.
The CMAG emphasised the urgency of ensuring a swift conclusion to the electoral process.
