Mines Minister, Christopher Yaluma, says government wants to ensure that the people of Zambia benefit from mining proceeds.

Mr. Yaluma says it is for this reason that government launched the Revised Mineral Resources Development Policy so that people can benefit from mines.

He says traditional leaders, who are the custodians of the land where mining is taking place, should not worry about getting benefit from mining firms as government is doing so on their behalf.

He says the policy was launched to address such challenges as well as increasing participation of Zambians in the mining sector.

Mr Yaluma notes that in the past the only benefits Zambians got from mining companies was being an employee of the mines but that now they can also fully participate in the mining industry as they are able to buy shares in the mines.
